"University of Education: Dead on Arrival, Will Mr. Governor Rethink Before It's Too Late?"
By Bashir Ashura.
Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq often presents himself to the average Kwaran as a Governor, who lacks clear direction, running the state of Kwara towards a paralysis. In my previous writings, I have voiced the concerns of many Kwarans regarding the Governor's ill-fated initiative to establish a University of Education. On several occasions, Kwarans have spoken out, urging the Governor to adopt a progressive mindset for Kwara rather than sacrificing established and flourishing projects for his own unproductive and groundless agenda.
Shall I remind Governor Abdulrahman about his "Esekan aye, Esekan Orurun" Tanke bridge? Or perhaps, discuss the accidental"Ogba tailor" (apology to my brother from other side) called Garment Factory? Given his actions, one might wonder: has the Governor paused to reflect on their implications? Has he forgotten that we live in the 21st century, a time when critical questions will be asked? Even if the APC House of Assembly, under the leadership of Yakub Danladi, refrains from questioning the soso and out of thought projects, the people of Kwara will not hesitate to do so.
The University of Education proposal comes off as a non-starter from the Governo, If the Governor, who has failed to support Kwara State University (KWASU) by abandoning both ilesa Baruba and Osi campuses still harbors thoughts of creating another University of Education in Kwara, he must be questioned. Rather than pursuing his proposed university, the Governor should focus on reviving and supporting the existing institutions in Kwara and give KWASU the attention it desperately needs. In fact, upgrading the existing colleges of education in Kwara would be a more cost-effective and conflict-free measure, demonstrating his capability and curtailing wasteful expenditure on new university of Education. Why such reckless spending at a time when his government lacks transparency towards the good people of Kwara State?
I would urge the Governor to consider enhancing facilities like the College of Education ORO or the College of Education Lafiagi instead of initiating another endless project at the expense of taxpayers' money.
It would be beneficial for the Governor to take a page out of his predecessors' books. The world has moved beyond the unrealistic actions of the Governor.
I hope that the Governor will be more productive, more open to listening to the voices of Kwarans, and finally, put an end to the unrealistic and wasteful idea of setting up the University of Education.
