By Bashir Ashura. As a bright dawn breaks on this auspicious day, I find myself reflecting on the life and accomplishments of a man I am privileged to call my boss - a technocrat, a strategist, a politician, and an administrator par excellence. It is not just any day, but the day this great man was born. Happy Birthday, sir! From the editorial board of ThisDayLive Newspaper to the halls of government, your story has been one of meteoric rise and triumphant success. Your journey, from being the Special Adviser to Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, to serving as the Commissioner for Education in Kwara State, and later becoming a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a testament to your unwavering commitment to public service, your unassailable integrity, and your relentless pursuit of excellence. On this special day, I celebrate not only your birthday but also the numerous accomplishments you have achieved throughout your career. Your passion for education has resulted in transforma

The Struggle for Democracy and Justice in Kwara State, 1446 Days without Council and Counting.

Yusuf Soliu. As the sun rises and sets, marking the passage of time, the people of Kwara State have been denied their fundamental democratic rights for an astonishing 1445 days. The legitimate local government chairmen and councilors, elected by the people and for the people, remain unlawfully ousted from their offices. The orchestrator of this distressing situation, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has seemingly forsaken his duty to uphold democracy, choosing instead to silence opposition voices. It is a disheartening reality that these councilors, elected by the citizens of Kwara State to represent their interests, have been unlawfully removed from their offices. The reason for this is shrouded in political intrigue, but it is clear that the root cause is their affiliation with the opposition party. This act has not only undermined the democratic fabric of our society but also threatened the unity and progress of Kwara State. In the place of elected officials, Governor Abdulrazaq has

The slogan "Ijoba mekunu, ore mekunu, alanu mekunu" became the clarion call of the politicians, positioning themselves as the voice of the poor and the downtrodden. The state, once known as the State of Harmony, was rebranded as the State of Mekunu, an emblem of the promise of a better life for the underprivileged.  The politicians, who adopted and propagated these slogans, claimed to identify with the struggles of the mekunu. They promised to alleviate their sufferings and work towards their upliftment. However, the reality post-election has proven to be starkly different. The mekunu slogans have been discarded, and the promises made to the less privileged have seemingly been forgotten. The politicians who once claimed to be the "alanu mekunu" have v

Nigeria's Golden Era: The Unmatched Legacy of Saraki's Senate Leadership

By ; Bashir Ashura In the annals of Nigeria's political history, few figures have left as indelible a mark as Bukola Saraki during his tenure as Senate President. Widely regarded as a transformative leader, Saraki's visionary approach to governance and steadfast commitment to the nation's progress set him apart from his predecessors and successors alike. His tenure marked a golden era for Nigeria, characterized by a resolute stance against excessive loans, a push for made-in-Nigeria products, the passage of the Not Too Young To Run Bill, and a distinct independence from executive influence. The subsequent rubber-stamping tendencies of the 9th and 10th Senate have only served to highlight the unparalleled leadership that Saraki brought to the fore. ---Economic Prudence and Opposition to Excessive Loans: Under Saraki's leadership, the Senate took a principled stance against excessive loans, recognizing the long-term consequences they could have on the nation's economy
